Match Report Matatū v nib Blues

Matatū headed to Auckland on Saturday to face the Blues at Eden Park, an epic venue for a North v South clash. We didn’t come away with the result we wanted, the Blues on top at the final whistle 27-17.

We left it all out there and look forward to coming home for the final two fixtures of the Super Rugby Aupiki season for 2024.

Georgia Ponsonby turned up in a huge way on Saturday scoring two tries, the second coming at the start of the second half with Rosie Kelly’s conversion giving the girls a 12-8 lead after 50 minutes. Her efforts secured her Player of the Match.

Di Hiini extended the lead to 17-8 moments later, Matatū looking in a solid position to take the points from this Round 4 fixture.

As the rain came down and the pressure mounted, the Blues staged a late surge before the clock ticked over 60 minutes.

They found the energy and persistence to dot down for three tries – one converted – the hosts finishing the 80 minutes at 17-27.

While the defeat puts Matatū out of contention for the straight Aupiki final, they remain proof of their efforts, proof of their resilience and proof for their fans as they head into two home matches in Christchurch

Next up a double header at Apollo Projects Stadium, kicking off at 4.00pm on Friday 29 March before the Crusaders take on the Chiefs at 7.05pm.
