Matatū and Blackwells Mazda: Working together in 2025

Matatū are pleased to announce Blackwells Mazda have signed on as the team’s newest commercial partner. 

A long-time player in the vehicle industry in Christchurch, Blackwells Mazda have committed to the Super Rugby Aupiki franchise for at least two years, their branding set to appear on the team’s playing shorts. 

Rob Manning, Dealer Principal at Blackwells Mazda, said they were “excited and proud to partner with Matatū rugby”. 

“With a strong wāhine base following the Mazda brand, partnering with Matatū made perfect sense,” Manning said. 

“Blackwells Mazda is committed to the bright future of women's rugby and all women’s sport. We’re excited to be part of the journey and look forward to supporting Matatū’s success.” 

Sarah Munro, Matatū General Manager, said the club was “incredibly grateful for the backing and support of the team at Blackwells Mazda”.  

“We are both aligned in our excitement about the progression and advancement that continues to be made for women in rugby, and women in sport generally,” Munro said. 

“With the support of Blackwells, we can continue the momentum to provide opportunities for our wāhine to play at a professional level , and to inspire and empower the next generation to come.” 

As we embark on the 2025 Super Rugby Aupiki season, both Matatū management and the playing group are looking forward to working alongside the Blackwells Mazda team – for this season and beyond.
