du Plessis Returns, Bremner to Lock for Manawa Clash
We go again team, the girls are on the road to continue their title defence. The work’s been done, the plays practiced, the on-field tactics honed and perfected.
Matatū named their squad today to take on the Chiefs Manawa this weekend in Hamilton.
The girls representing Te Waka o Aoraki fly on Friday, ready to take the field at FMG Stadium in a rematch of last season’s final where Matatū came away with the Super Rugby Aupiki title for 2023.
The front row remains unchanged from Round 3 to Round 4, with Pip Love, Georgia Ponsonby and Amy Rule crouching, binding and setting. Atlanta Lolohea, Eilis Doyle and Moomooga Palu stand in reserve ready to make an impact when called upon.
Alana Bremner captains once again, joined in locking position by Laura Bayfield. Kendra Reynolds switches to blindside and Lucy Jenkins returns to the starting squad at openside. Kaipo Olsen-Baker holds firm at 8, with Emma Dermody and Holly Wratt-Groeneweg on the bench rounding out the forwards pack.
Di Hiini returns to halfback alongside first-five Rosie Kelly. Look for some serious speed and footwork from Martha Mataele and Charlie Woodman on the left and right wing respectively, with the latter earning her first start for Matatū.
Grace Brooker and Amy du Plessis occupy centre with Chey Robins-Reti at fullback. This backline looks dangerous.
Standing ready and willing are Maia Joseph, Winnie Palamo and Liv McGoverne. Huge experience and fresh legs. How good.
It’s Round 3, it’s the Chiefs Manawa, it’s away in Hamilton. Games don’t get much bigger than this. However you support the team, whether it’s from the stands or the sofa, get in behind the girls this weekend.
